Materialism is a system of living that uses competition to create a caste system of winners and losers.

The insidious catch is that the competition is self-sustaining and spirals upward until everyone is eventually a loser. There will always be someone who runs when you walk, and who flies when you run. Materialism is a system of living that creates losers out of all of us.

Ilchi Lee said if a social system requires that we be winners to feel self-worth, what happens to the feelings of self-worth of the losers, who are left out of the social system as outcasts and pariahs. No wonder so many people feel anxious and nervous, because they know deep down inside that they will be left out of the loop eventually, if they are not already.
