Quieting My Busy Mind

When I started Dahn Yoga one of my biggest challenges was quieting my mind.  I know many new members share this struggle. I had spent so many years keeping my mind busy.  I was very skilled at doing many things at once with my mind going in all directions.   I allowed my busy mind to distract me from my own body and soul.  To break this habit, I started to actually schedule meditation time.  I sat up a quiet area in my house and scheduled time to sit in the quiet.  First I would focus on my breathing, but eventually, I started to clear my mind of all thoughts and just listen.  Some days I still find my mind racing around, but it is easier and easier to step back and quiet my mind.

  1. It is so true! “Multitasking” is even listed in many job requirements! If you have a job where your brain is continually busy, keep focus on your body as you coordinate multiple projects. Breathing and recognizing how your body feels as you breath is simple and a good thing to do.

  2. I also think that it is interesting that recent brain science research has proven that “multitasking” actually decreases efficiency in the workplace!

Findings indicate that by overloading our brain with seemingly endless commands, we short-circuit vital synapses. The brain becomes confused, and spends more time sorting and recalculating commands…..just the opposite of what workplace efficiency experts once preached.

So, slow down a bit, do one thing at a time, with complete focus and attention – be in the moment, not mentally juggling the next hour’s priorities – and watch the wonderful results.

Our brains are so amazing, they can do anything !!
