STRESS RELIEF

I have lived in Gaithersburg and Rockville for 27 years.  I was a Chinese-Vietnamese refugee in 1980 when I first arrived in the United States.  For survival in a new country, I put a lot of effort and went through countless hardships.  Climbing up the ladder of success in my profession of Dental Hygienist in Gaithersburg and Rockville, I carried tremendous pressure and that resulted in a nervous breakdown and physical exhaustion.

One of the dentists introduced me to the Dahn Yoga at Gaithersburg in April of 2006, since then I have been able to quit antidepressants.  I have obtained optimal health in my life.  Practicing Dahn Yoga is not only improving my physical body, it also gives me a peaceful and sincere mind.  A dozen of my patients used to require some source of mild medication to calm them down before their dental service due to anxiety and fear.  When they come to my chair, they feel my gratitude and sincerity which eases their dental anxiety.  The most benefit by practicing Dahn Yoga is that my dream has come true.  As a refugee 27 years ago, I always want to repay my community what I had gained from the refugee camp.  Being an active member of non-profit organization—Dahn Foundation, which is formed by active and passionate Dahn Yoga members, I voluntarily presented a workshop for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  “Learn from society, and use that what is learned for society” is one of my life principles.

I have learned health, smile and peace from Dahn Yoga.  Health–opens my eyes to see the need of our society for holistic health issues.  Smile–inner happiness is a contagious state which starts from one’s self and spreads to family members and our community.  Peace—balancing our mind and body, individual and family, personal benefit and community benefit will raise harmony and peace to our community.  This is my next vision toward my community — Gaithersburg.
